Members of the Howell Mountain Mutual Water Company have ousted four members of their Board of Directors in a recall election. Analysis of the election results shows that 70% favored recall of the "old guard".
Doug Ermshar, leader of the so-called "Gang of Four," received the highest vote of disapproval. He was ejected by 305 votes. Two other members of that Board majority - Roger Lutz, Jr., and Marie Carlton - were also removed. One member of the "Gang of Four" - Doug Bock - held his seat, but only because of a technicality.
Unfortunately, Adam Pease, leader of the three reform directors, was lost with 159 recall votes. The "Gang of Four" had asked their supporters to concentrate their available votes against Pease. The other two reform directors, Richard Crain and Mike Hogan, kept their seats.
In order to recall a director, members had to cast more votes "to recall" than the director had originally received when first elected to the Board. On that basis, Richard Crain turned out to be the most popular director. Crain's original vote was 118; he received just 29 recall votes. Mike Hogan was next most popular; he was voted in originally with 99 votes and received only 46 recall votes.
The recall votes for each director, compared to their votes when originally elected, were as follows:
