About Angwin...
Angwin is a community of about 2500 residents on Howell Mountain. We are in a coastal range of northern California, about 70 mi. north of San Francisco.
The Village ranges from 1600 to 2200 ft. elevation, overlooking the scenic Napa Valley. It is surrounded by vineyards and forests.
Many Angwin residents work for Pacific Union College, a liberal arts college with a national reputation, or the nearby St. Helena Hospital.

Here are some numbers you should know . . .
There are
30
volunteers in the Angwin Ambulance Company.
They respond to
300
calls a year from people like you and me.
They're good in emergencies because while you and I are home watching TV, they're at Monday night drill, learning how to help your neighbor who has just had a stroke, your daughter who has slid off the road and is pinned in her car, 100 feet down a steep slope, your husband who has fallen down the stairs and needs to be lifted carefully onto a stretcher.
For getting up in the night, or taking off work in the day to help us, they are paid

Question: Is this a big tree or a small woman?
Big Tree or Small Woman?

What is it?
Multicolored Skink
Turned over a tarp the other day and this little fellow - about 4 inches - long scurried out. Our experts say it is a Western Skink, not uncommon but not often seen.
It looks like it was made by two workmen one working from one end and one working from the other. When they met in the middle, one exclaimed, "What hath God wrought!!"
Someone in our household said it looks like something from Las Vegas.

Kevin Groom(left) displays $8,000 check with Tom Amato.
Wilson Daniel's Ltd. of St. Helena wrote a check for $8,000 last week to the Angwin Community Teen Center, a healthy contribution to the Center's need for $72,000 a year. Some 189 Angwinites have donated to the Teen Center so far since its inception last year, according to Tom Amato, executive director.
Jim Clifton is president of the Center. JoAline Olson, CEO of the St. Helena Hospital, is development director.
This year's funding will go toward increased community service, expansion of the peer counseling program, purchase of video editing and computerized music composition equipment, and a lecture series for parents.
The Teen Center is offering a rich mix of activities for teen-agers - football, air hockey, table games, arts and crafts, model airplanes, computer sports games, kareoche, computers, star-gazing, table games, and exercise equipment. The Center is providing peer counseling, getting kids into community service projects, and field trips.
The most recent Center project is a series of lectures for parents and community leaders. See announcement below of the next lecture scheduled.
The Angwin Reporter thinks that the Teen Center is one of the best things to happen in Angwin. And it is not a government project, but one supported by Angwinites and their friends. Somewhere in this community is a senior citizen who will change their will to include a substantial contribution to the Teen Center. Think about it.

A good year for rainfall
WEATHERMAN REPORTS 46 INCHES
Dr. Bill Mundy reported today that Angwin received more than 46 inches of rain this season. The average - during the winter months of November to April - is about 42.
The total this year was boosted significantly by a wet month of May - possibly the wettest May since records have been kept - 55 years ago. More than 2 inches arrived in May.
The chart below is enlightening. Can you imagine getting more than 80 inches of rain? That happened in 1982-83? Can you imagine only about 15 inches, in 1975-76?
