Our Credit Union . . .
A Five-Star Rating . . .
for 31 Years

This is kinda unbelievable. The Silverado Credit Union has earned the highest rating of the banking industry for 31 years in a row.

The award recognizes the Credit Union for its continual Superior Performance and Strength. It is given by Bauer Financial, Inc, the nation's leading independent banking and credit union rating firm.

"Traditional values with state-of-the-art technology - that's the winning combination that puts Silverado Credit Union ahead," said Karen Dorway, present of the research firm. Earning a 5-Star rating is an outstanding achievement - evidence of consistently sound management, financial strength and performance..

"Earning 5-Stars 31 consecutive times is truly remarkable.".

Marilyn Van Dolson, general manager of the Credit Union, is proud of her organization's Five-Star Rating.

Some Statistics from the Annual Report

The Silverado Credit Union has $23.7 million out in loans, many to Angwin residents. Through the years it has built investments of another $18.7 million. Its total assets are $44.4 million.

Last year, it realized $1.9 million in income from those loans and investments.

"Some 75% of its loans have been made for home mortgages; 21% for auto loans, and the balance for miscellaneous..

    for Annual Bird count

It was cloudy all day, with intermittent heavy rain and winds up to 15 mph. The temperature slowly crept up from 37 degrees to 47.

But nine hardy souls endured the weather to conduct the annual bird count in the Angwin area.

Wendy Cole of Deer Park masterminded the operation, which encompassed a circle extending down Howell Mountain on both sides. This year, 45 people positioned themselves within the circle, identifying l7,345 birds of 127 different species.

The Angwin group included Wayne Tillay, Floyd Hayes, Cindy and Burges Smith, Tom and Barbara Gaman, Chris and Wendy Cole, and Bob Martin. They identified 2,612 birds of 66 species.

The most exciting sighting was of a bobcat off Crystal Springs Road in Bell Canyon.

Duck numbers were low, Wendy said. White-tailed Kit, Barn Owl and Lark Sparrow were off the list for the first time in 10 years. But the Varied Thrush was back after not being seen anywhere last year.

    CREDIT UNION REPORTS
    ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL YEAR

About 150 residents from the Upper Napa Valley congregated in the Deer Park Community Hall last week to hear the annual report from their Silverado Credit Union. They heard good news about the performance of their local "bank."

Chairman Henry Kopitzke, long-time Angwin attorney, reported that the Credit Union has an excellent record in ratio of bad debts to loans. Out of $23.7 million in outstanding loans, only $34,457 had to be written off as uncollectible last year.

The Credit Union has 1789 members in Angwin - plus others in its branches in St. Helena, Mountain View, Paradise, (all California), and Nampa, Idaho. Fourteen men and women staff the Angwin office.

"There are two things you must keep as secret as you can," she said. "They are your Social Security number and your birthday."

Marilyn has lived in the area since 1960. She attended PUC Prep and PUC, and has been general manager of the Credit Union since 1981.
