The Napa County Board of Supervisors is being asked to approve higher speeds on several roads in or close to Angwin. The Public Works Department will be recommending these changes:
Deer Park Road, between Highway 29 and Silverado Trail, to be boosted from 50 to 55 mph. Based on studies which have measured the current speed at 53-55 mph. No reported collisions in five years.
Deer Park Road between Silverado Trail and Sanitarium Road, to be boosted from 45 to 50 mph. Records show the prevailing speed to be 51-52 mph, with only one reported collision in five years.
White Cottage Road between College Avenue and Howell Mountain Road, to be kept at 40 mph. The prevailing speed has been measured at 44-50 mph and there have been six reported collisions in the last five years, so the 40 mph will be maintained. The decision recognized the presence of the Howell Mountain Elementary School and decided that it should not approve an increase in the speed limit of this entire stretch.
Pope Valley Road/Chiles Pope Valley Road from 3,500 feet north of Howell Mountain Road to 2,500 feet south of Howell Mountain Road, to be increased from 45 to 50 mph. That would be lower than the prevailing speed of 55 mph on this stretch and seen eight reported collisions, with five of them at the intersection at Howell Mountain Road.
