Pacific Union College is pursuing plans for development in Angwin. On another track and simultaneously, Napa County planners are wondering what Angwinites want this village to look like years ahead.
The vehicle for change on the County track is the Napa County General Plan. A Steering Committee is studying how to treat Angwin in the General Plan, which will ultimately control zoning here - agricultural, commercial and residential.
They want to know what we think, what we want. If you have an opinion, or just want to hear what others say, come to the workshop next Thursday, July 20.
Thursday, July 20, at 6:30 p.m. Fireside Room in the church complex.
The existing designation for Angwin in the existing General Plan is the notorious "Bubble." Drawn in conference with PUC people more than 20 years ago, it is an oval that encompasses the campus and extends along Howell Road for more than half a mile beyond the campus. It is designated "Urban" - meaning it could allow building hundreds of new homes on College lands.
The Bubble is a fiction. It bears no relationship to reality. Why? Because it includes many acres of woodland and crop land which is zoned agricultural and should never be developed. And because it doesn't include most of the already developed Angwin community. It is a planning embarrassment.
What the County needs to do is draw a completely different map of Urban Angwin, INCLUDING the existing PUC campus and the existing community, and EXCLUDING the parcels which are zoned agriculture/watershed.
We think that will happen. But they need to hear from residents that that is what we want.
The workshop will give you an opportunity to say, "First of all, let's get rid of the Bubble. Let's get real."
