About Angwin...
Angwin is a community of about 2500 residents on Howell Mountain. We are in a coastal range of northern California, about 70 mi. north of San Francisco.
The Village ranges from 1600 to 2200 ft. elevation, overlooking the scenic Napa Valley. It is surrounded by vineyards and forests.
Many Angwin residents work for Pacific Union College, a liberal arts college with a national reputation, or the nearby St. Helena Hospital.

County rebuilding washed out roadway
|
|
County crews are rebuilding the roadway on Howell Mountain Road washed out by recent flood waters. A massive crane placed many tons of heavy rocks on the slope, to replace dirt that washed away last month.
Eight to 10 inches of rain in Angwin in 24 hours raised the creek along Howell Mountain Road to possibly an unprecedented level, and to the point that it was flowing over the road.
Dave Church, the Road Commission acting supervisor for our area, reports that the County has already applied to FEMA for funds to rebuild a shoulder there. We could get lucky.
Looking at the level of the creek about 15 feet down it is hard to imagine that the flood waters were running across the road here a foot deep.

High water levels at Lake Berryessa
|
|
All this winter rainfall has raised Lake Berryessa to high levels. The water level at the "glory hole" spillway looks to be about 4 feet over the rim. Below the dam it becomes Putah Creek again (bottom picture).
Several years ago, when the water was much lower, a local girl said her boyfriend took a picture of her sitting on the rim of the spillway.
Aaaaaah, youth. ("What I Did for Love.")
